Eliminations

Saturday October 19, 2013 - Clients as well as employees of Amici Mercantile Inc. relived the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie by participating in the 3rd Invitational Sportsfest Badminton Tournament held at The Zone, Makati City.

 

With the competitive vibe circulating the venue, players started preparing for their matches. Games started and players displayed their skills; from their lightning-speed laterals to smashes to teardrop shots to dips. Players showed their best in accomplishing only one goal that day – to be champions in their own way.

 

Teams were categorized in two levels; level A for the professional playes and level B for the amateurs. For level A, there was a single round robin tournament while on the other hand, level B teams had two chances to make it to the finals. Participating teams for level A were Robinson's Land Corporation, Transflow Pumps and Technologies, Will Decena & Associates, Filinvest Land Inc., Philippine Socia\ety of Mechanical Engineers - Makati Chapter, and Beta Electric Corporation listed for the Pro Category. For level B, Amici Mercantile Inc., ALPA Plumbing Works, DCCD Engineering Corporation, DDT Konstract Inc., DMCI Construction, IM Martinrez Consulting Engineers, Integrated Contractor & Plumbing Works Inc., Nouvac Technologies and Westwind, Jan Owen Martin Construction Corporation, Makati Development Corporation, Meinhardt Philippines Inc., NBF Consulting Inc., Shinryo Philippines Inc., Thermovar Pipes Sales and Services, and Wavolution Technologies joined.

 

With level A, crowd-favorite Team Robinson's composed of Ace player Roden Rivera and Rosario Fullante paved there way to a flawless 5-0 record in the elimination round of their bracket.

 

Team Shinryo composed of Timmy Garcillas and Lizzy Atemania almost fell short when they faced Team DMCI. They worked their way from a five-point deficit to win the game. Despite the loss with Team Shinryo, Team DMCI had their second chance in advancing to the finals unfortunately, they fell short in the hands of Team Meinhardt.

Finals

Speed, agility and power – These are the words that can describe what composed the top teams who advanced to the finals of the 3rd Invitational Sportsfest Badminton Tournament held at The Zone, Makati City last October 19, 2013. This event was sponsored by Guangdong Liansu Technology Industrial Co., Ltd, Pentair Ltd, Ginhawa Spa and Dining, The Wow Company and Waters Philippines.

 

Crowd-favorite Robinson's Land Corporation composed of Ace player Roden Rivera and Rosario Fullante had their hands full when they faced PSME's Buboy Reyes and Jo Reyes in the Finals for level A. The first set gave it's way for Team Robinson's as they won it in a 21-16 convincing win. However, with the competitive spirit that Team PSME showed, they bounce back to a 1-1 and win the second set having a 21-19 score. If the first two sets were intense for the crowd, it even got better at the final set. Rallies with smashes and lightning-fast lateral movement were executed with perfection by both teams. Team Robinson's pulled away with their early lead, made their way on top of the hill and finished wiith a score of 21-16.

 

“Ok naman ang tournament, masaya. Organized ang tournament and maayos ang sistema.” Roden Rivera of Team Robinson's said as he went to the bench at the end of the game.

 

Buboy Reyes shared a few thoughts as he rested. “It was a tiring fulfillment for us since it was a battle of ages. We are happy with Amici. Rewarding ang feeling na magkaroon ng ganitong mga tournament.”

 

Adding to that Jo Reyes of PSME said, “Mahirap silang kalaban. Malakas yung lalaki. (pertaining to Roden Rivas of Robinson's)”

 

Level B provided a heart-stopping match between Team Shinryo composed of Timmy Garcillas and Lizza Alemania and Team Meinhardt's Ronald Gregorio and Chrinessa Garcia. At first, Team Shinryo was behind as much as nine points with a 16-25 score. Slowly but surely, they had mini-rallies as the game progressed and they held Team Meinhardt to a slump and stuck at 32 points. A 7-0 run made by Team Shinryo was witnessed by the crowd and hearts were stopped as it became a very close game. In the end, the final battle concluded with a 35-33 score giving Team Shinryo a come-from-behind win from Team Meinhardt.
